ABOUT 1319
1319 Curated: Uncurated. Ungoverned.
1319 Curated is an organization focused on artistic autonomy. Despite its name, 1319 Curated does not advocate for, or against, gallery style curation. Instead, 1319 believes in any form of artistic expression that is true to the artist's intent; regardless of if that expression exists in a museum, gallery, school, the street, or anywhere else.
While most organizations build their brands on multiple pillars, 1319 Curated stands behind only one principle: agency.
In sociological terms "agency" is defined as the capacity of individuals to act independently and make their own free choices. Implicit in the concept of agency is the concept of personal responsibility. 1319 believes in artistic autonomy through agency, and allowing artists to make their own rules and shoulder the responsibility that comes with having their own un-compromised vision. We recognize (and embrace) that art can be ugly, offensive, and illegal. We also recognize that not everything labeled as "art" is worthy of that designation.
1319 Curated believes in agency, and values our own agency above all else. While some creations endorsed by 1319 may upset people, we believe every piece associated with our name is worthy of being called "art" and stand behind not only the artistic expression itself, but the artist's right to make said expression.
"Fuck the world if they can't adjust."
